In 2014, the SM Megamall finalized its construction in Manila, Philippines, making it the largest mall in Asia and the second largest mall in the world. For this massive commercial project, CAZA designed the facility’s main public amenities, including a 251-seat IMAX Theater to fulfil the entertainment needs of the Metro Manila community. Bold graphic accents and sleek textures inform an immersive aesthetic of tribal futurism, transporting users into an environment of cinematic drama to reflect the spirit of the IMAX experience.
While malls are often situated in sealed off, impersonal environments, CAZA’s design for the amenities at the SM Megamall aimed to weave together commerce, movement, and entertainment in hopes of creating a constellation of community-oriented spaces that cultivate an environment where leisure time is constructed and enjoyed.
