What kind of bowling alley befits the largest mall in Asia?

In 2014, the SM Megamall finalized its construction in Manila, Philippines, making it the largest mall in Asia and the second largest mall in the world. For this massive commercial project, CAZA designed the facility’s main public amenities, including a 15-lane bowling alley with a billiards area, a refreshments bar, and public seating. With colorful accents and linear lights playfully zig-zagging across the ceilings and walls, the bright venue exudes an animated liveliness that escalates when filled with active users.

While malls are often situated in sealed off, impersonal environments, CAZA’s design for the amenities at the SM Megamall aimed to weave together commerce, movement, and entertainment in hopes of creating a constellation of community-oriented spaces that cultivate an environment where leisure time is constructed and enjoyed.
